The Monument stands in Monument Street in the City of London. It took 6 years to build and was completed in 1677. It was built to commemorate the great fire of London in 1666. The structure stands 61 meters high and there are 311 steps to the top (the Leaning Tower of Pisa is slightly smaller at 58 meters tall with 284 steps to the top). It offers great views of The Shard and the Sky Garden. Costs are around £4.00 for access and a certificate is given on your way down. There is no lift!
